- Eliminate the answer choices you know are incorrect
- Review all answer choices before you select your answer
- If you are not sure how to answer, make an educated guess
- If you find that you are second guessing yourself, stick with your first answer. Usually your first choice is going to be the right one.
- In "All of the above" or "None of the above" choices, if you are positive that one of the choices is true do not choose "None of the above" or if one of the choices is obviously false do not choose "All of the above".
- In questions containing an "All of the above" choice, if you notice that there are at least two correct statements, then "All of the above" is most likely the correct answer.
- A positive choice is more likely to be true than a negative one.
- In questions containing a "None of the above" choice, if you notice that there are at least two in-correct statements, then "None of the above" is most likely the correct answer.

Tips for Answering Math Questions on the Real Estate Exam
When you register for Real Estate Exam Tutor will provide you with sample questions that will be similar to what you will see on the state real estate exam. While they, in most cases, will not be the exact questions the formulas to solve them will be the same.
- Your state exam consists of math questions related to state issues concerning closing a real estate transaction. You will also have to understand real estate financing, brokerage and commission questions, as well as land description, the number of square feet in an acre, as well as other issues related to these types of questions.
- When you first look at a question, attempt to complete it on your own without looking at the answer that we have given you. Trying to work out the question on your own is the best way to LEARN THE STEPS necessary to complete these types of math questions.
- Work on the questions more than once. Do not work on them in the same order every time, and do not just memorize the answers. Again, it is most important that you LEARN THE STEPS necessary to complete the type of question you are working on.
- Make up a sheet with all the formulas you need to know and memorize all the formulas on the sheet.
- Learning THE STEPS will give you the opportunity to “Brain dump” and write down the STEPS on the piece of paper you are given at the test center to work out the various math formulas. Once you have them written down, you do not have to worry about remembering them any more. Be careful not to take up too much room on the paper because when you use up one piece you must turn it in to get another blank piece of paper.
- Read each question at least twice and each answer at least twice. Eliminate the two answers that you know are wrong, and pick the BEST answer from the remaining two. Remember there is only ONE BEST ANSWER to every question especially in math. Do NOT round off in your calculator until the end of the problem. For example, if you divide $1,000 by 360 days = $2.78, and if you leave that number in your calculator and multiple by 25 days =$69.44. If you take the $2.78 out of your calculator and multiply by 25 the answer will be $69.50.
- Most state exams only consist of around 10% of math questions. Do not spend all of your time worrying about math if it is not your strong suit. If you learn all of the other CONCEPTS and DEFINITIONS presented in our course, you can miss all of the math questions and still pass the state exam. Think logically when you read a question. For example, if a property sold for $100,000 and the commission earned is 7% of the sale price, and the answers given are $70, $700, $7,000 and $70,000 you should be able to determine that the only answer that makes sense before even doing the math is $7,000.
- If math is a problem area for you, skip all of the math questions the first time around when taking the state examination. This actually is the best way to approach all of the questions on the exam. If you’re not sure that the answer you have chosen to a particular question is correct, than just skip it. You will have an opportunity at the end of the test to go back, and re-think these questions.
Real Estate Exam Providers by State Although some states administer the real estate licensing exam themselves, the vast majority of states delegate the Real Estate Exam process to several providers who are contracted by the various real estate commissions. AMP, Promissor and PSI are the three main exam providers used by the commissions.
